NFDI-MatWerk - Responsive Layout
NFDI-MatWerk – National Research Data Infrastructure for MSE

We support researchers in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) with FAIR data solutions that enable new discovery.

We envision research data management (RDM) that supports every stage of a project, strengthens collaboration through easier data exchange, and integrates materials data from different techniques, including experiments and simulations.

We invite researchers with all levels of RDM knowledge to engage with an ecosystem of adaptable workflows, services, tools, and guidance that support daily laboratory and simulation work.

NFDI-MatWerk at the NHR4CES Community Workshop 2025

On 07 – 08 May 2025, the NHR4CES Community Workshop on Materials Science with Advanced Data Management and Data Science Techniques took place in Aachen. Leonid Gerdt and Ebrahim Norouzi contributed insights from NFDI-MatWerk and shared how data infrastructures can support materials research in practice.

The session focused on how structured data management, workflows and ontologies can help improve the accessibility and reusability of materials data across the MSE community. Highlights included:

– an introduction to the goals and activities of NFDI-MatWerk,
– the role of ontologies in enabling interoperability across research domains,
– and case studies illustrating how these tools are already being applied.

The workshop brought together researchers from materials science, data science and high-performance computing – all working towards a more connected, data-driven research landscape in the computational engineering sciences.

Many thanks to the NHR4CES team for the invitation and excellent organization!
