NFDI-MatWerk 2023 Strategy Meeting: Charting the way forward

NFDI-MatWerk's journey into the future is more than a mission; it's a collaborative quest to advance the field of materials science and engineering. As we navigate through our strategic roadmap, the team's recent gathering at the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research in Düsseldorf marked a pivotal phase in this journey, setting the tone for our efforts in 2024 and beyond.

Our opening session, encapsulated by the theme "Envisioning NFDI-MatWerk'stransformative role in materials science and engineering", adopted the dynamic World Café method. This approach facilitated a lively exchange of projections for the impact and evolution of NFDI-MatWerk over the next decade and the shorter milestones along the way.

As the meeting progressed, particularly in the following days, our discussions took a pragmatic turn. We deliberated on the specific infrastructure use cases that were ready for priority attention, integrating insights from a diverse cohort of professionals ranging from materials scientists and engineers to IT and software specialists. This synergy has resulted in strategic action plans and preliminary timelines, all of which have been developed with a keen understanding of our community's needs and resource allocations.

The stage is now set to turn these strategies into action. We are mobilizing teams dedicated to new infrastructure use cases, organizing kick-off events and drawing on the expertise of our Agile Manager, Anika Lenze, to ensure that our next steps are as effective as they are innovative.

Join us on this exciting phase of our journey, where every step forward is a step towards reshaping the landscape of materials science and engineering. With NFDI-MatWerk at the forefront, the horizon is full of potential. Stay tuned for more insights and updates as we move forward!
