NFDI-MatWerk Structure

The organizational framework of NFDI-MatWerk promotes close collaboration among experts to build an infrastructure that enables easy and efficient management of research data, which is one of the main goals of the project. This structure encompasses a variety of organs, each with a specific role to ensure comprehensive governance, strategic planning, and practical implementation. Below are the main components that constitute the organizational structure of NFDI-MatWerk:

  • Task Areas (TAs) are specialized units focused on different aspects of the NFDI-MatWerk infrastructure, such as community engagement, data management, workflow development, and ontology creation, supporting the overall infrastructure goals.
  • Infrastructure Use Cases (IUCs) demonstrate the practical application of the NFDI-MatWerk infrastructure in addressing specific research challenges, integrating various components of the infrastructure to support efficient and reproducible research practices.
  • Participant Projects (PPs) are pre-existing research initiatives by NFDI-MatWerk partners that address specific scientific and technological challenges, providing practical examples and feedback for the development and validation of the infrastructure.
  • The Lenkungskreis (Executive Board) manages the day-to-day operations of the consortium and makes decisions within the Task Areas that affect other Task Areas.
  • The Steuerungsgruppe (Steering Group) is the formal decision-making body of the consortium, responsible for the strategic direction and operational oversight. It makes decisions on key financial issues and changes to the work programme of its member institutions.
  • The Advisory Board provides external expertise and guidance to NFDI-MatWerk, offering strategic advice, reviewing progress, and ensuring the alignment of activities with scientific and industry standards.
