Review: First NFDI-MatWerk Tool Webinar

On 22 March 2024, the first NFDI-MatWerk Tool Webinar discussed “Machine Learning Hardware in a Public Context: Options and How to Use Them.”

The webinar was presented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tim Dahmen from Deutsches Forschungszentrum für künstliche Intelligenz GmbH (DFKI).

During the presentation, Prof. Dahmen discussed the growing need for compute resources in material science and engineering, which has been driven by the success of Deep Learning technology. He provided insights on how to maximize GPU resources for deep learning tasks, showcasing various efficient utilization methods for research institutes. These methods include renting hardware from cloud providers like Google and Amazon. He explained the solution's resource reservations for both interactive and cluster modes, providing flexible options.

The webinar also gave an overview of alternative approaches, enabling participants to make informed decisions. Thank you to Prof. Dahmen and all attendees for contributing to the discussion!

The NFDI-MatWerk Tool Webinar Series will continue on 5 April 2024 with the topic “Visual Programming in Jupyter Lab”, also presented by by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tim Dahmen.
