The latest DGM Lunch Talk, adeptly moderated by Prof. Martina Zimmermann, brought together 46 experts in a collaborative forum. The event opened with insightful pitch presentations: Prof. Heike Zinsmeister delved into the complexities of linguistic research data, Dr.-Ing. Bernd Bayerlein offered a deep dive into image-based analysis, and Prof. Ulrich Krupp shared his journey towards digitizing lab notebooks. Felix Weber's short segment on digital transformation in micromechanics added another layer to the discussion.
The highlight was the dynamic open discussion, weaving a story of challenges and opportunities in research data management. Each presentation enriched the dialogue and contributed to an integrated overview of the various aspects of research data management, from Jens Eichler's thoughts on data-sharing agreements and ownership of new knowledge to Prof. Ulrich Krupp’s suggestion of the importance of standards. Dr. Cosima Schuster of the DFG and Prof. Birgit Skrotzki mentioned that legal issues exist but are not yet fully solved. Prof. Aranzazu del Campo's NFDI-MatWerk participating SPP project on engineered living materials exemplified the power of interdisciplinary research and the need for a common language in science.
Prof. Martina Zimmermann summarized the importance of research data management in all scientific disciplines and the magnitude of the effort needed to overcome research data management challenges, which should be broken down into smaller challenges. As there is a need for collaboration in the MatWerk community, please contact the NFDI-MatWerk, even without knowing the details of the infrastructure use cases (IUCs).
To encourage further collaboration with new projects, NFDI-MatWerk invites you to participate in our new initiative for participant projects at NFDI-MatWerk. This platformrepresents NFDI-MatWerk's commitment to fostering a community where ideas and innovations in materials science can flourish.
This DGM Lunch Talk has contributed positively to the ongoing dialogue in research data management, encouraging a culture of shared learning and cooperative effort in this field.
