Motivation

The NFDI-MatWerk initiative was founded to address key challenges in the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) community. Research data is often fragmented and stored in separate systems, making it inaccessible for reuse and collaboration. Additionally, large amounts of data are produced today, but they cannot be reused due to a lack of metadata or interfaces necessary for reuse. NFDI-MatWerk aims to create a unified data infrastructure that consolidates diverse datasets, ensures easy access, and promotes data sharing through standardized formats and protocols.

Efficient data management is essential to modern research. However, managing large quantities of diverse data can lead to inefficiencies and data loss. NFDI-MatWerk addresses these issues by providing robust data management tools and best practice examples. Solutions such as automated workflows, standardized metadata and secure storage solutions ensure that data are uniformly organized, easily accessible and protected from loss or damage. This allows researchers to focus on analysis and innovation instead of worrying about data management.

By integrating research into a national infrastructure, NFDI-MatWerk increases the visibility and impact of scientific results. The initiative also promotes a culture of open data sharing by providing clear guidelines and harvesting strategies to ensure international recognition for data owners.
