About NFDI-MatWerk

Infrastructure Use Cases

Infrastructure Use Cases (IUCs) are NFDI-MatWerk’s development areas, derived from the needs of Participant Projects (PPs), which reflect the research needs of the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) community. They demonstrate how the infrastructure supports data acquisition, processing, sharing, and analysis, providing concrete applicable and adaptable workflows. Members of the Participant Projects and NFDI-MatWerk’s Task Areas jointly develop the IUCs. These use cases validate the infrastructure in practice and ensure it delivers interoperable, FAIR solutions that meet the evolving demands of MSE.

Goals

  • Demonstrate applications: Show how NFDI-MatWerk can be used in real MSE research scenarios for data management and analysis.
  • Validate functionality: Test infrastructure performance in practice, identifying strengths and improvement needs.
  • Guide development: Use feedback from MSE research applications to refine and adapt the infrastructure to MSE community needs.
  • Engage the community: Involve MSE researchers in development, ensuring collaboration and relevance.
  • Support community education: Provide training examples that help MSE researchers, students, and professionals adopt developed solutions and workflows.
  • Promote best practices: Establish and share effective strategies for data handling and analysis.
  • Facilitate sharing and reuse: Enable efficient data integration and accessibility in line with FAIR principles.
