Overview

The Task Area Community Interaction (TA-CI) is the central point of contact for engaging the diverse and interdisciplinary materials science and engineering (MSE) community. Its primary aim is to promote broad acceptance of NFDI-MatWerk and to actively involve researchers at all career levels and from all domains. TA-CI helps ensure that NFDI-MatWerk is not perceived as a data collection initiative, but as a framework for enabling knowledge creation through FAIR and high-quality research data practices.

TA-CI guides new stakeholders through the onboarding process—identifying their needs, matching them with suitable infrastructure use cases, and fostering dialogue on potential new developments. It supports community members in aligning their research practices with FAIR principles and facilitates integration into the broader NFDI and oneNFDI ecosystem.

Goals

  • Foster broad community participation
Serve as the first point of contact for researchers and institutions not yet involved in NFDI-MatWerk and support their integration into the initiative.
  • Communicate needs and use cases
Identify the development stage and requirements of new stakeholders and relay this information to the relevant Task Areas to ensure targeted support.
  • Guide onboarding and infrastructure adoption
Support researchers in selecting appropriate infrastructure components and use cases, and initiate discussions for new developments when needed.
  • Promote FAIR data practices
Provide guidance on data preparation, handling, and quality to align with NFDI-MatWerk standards and ensure compliance with the FAIR principles.
  • Support roll-out and outreach
Contribute to the roll-out of NFDI-MatWerk solutions through active engagement, events, and tailored community formats.
  • Integrate NFDI into education
Promote dialogue on how research data management and NFDI concepts can be incorporated into university curricula and training programs.
  • Engage in cross-consortia collaboration
Maintain active exchange with other NFDI consortia to contribute to the oneNFDI vision and ensure interoperability and consistency across disciplines.
