Overview

The Task Area Materials Data Infrastructure (TA-MDI) focuses on developing and maintaining the core digital platform for materials science data management. This Task Area is responsible for creating the Digital Materials Environment (DME), which serves as a comprehensive system for storing, sharing, and analyzing materials data and metadata. TA-MDI ensures that the DME supports data integrity, provenance, and accessibility, making it a reliable backbone for the digital infrastructure. By integrating diverse data types and supporting diverse research needs, TA-MDI enables seamless data interaction and collaboration among researchers.

Goals

  • Develop the Digital Materials Environment (DME): Create and maintain the DME as a central digital platform for comprehensive management of materials data and metadata.
  • Ensure Data Integrity and Provenance: Implement robust mechanisms to maintain data integrity and provenance, ensuring reliable data management and traceability.
  • Support Data Accessibility: Design the infrastructure to support easy access, sharing, and searching of materials data, promoting effective data utilization.
  • Provide Comprehensive Data Services: Offer services for the easy storage, sharing, searching, and analysis of materials data and metadata, enhancing data accessibility and usability.
  • Enable Seamless Collaboration: Provide tools and features within the DME that support collaboration and data interaction among researchers, enhancing their ability to work together effectively.
  • Adapt to Evolving Research Needs: Continuously update and adapt the DME to meet emerging research requirements and technological advancements in materials science.
  • Facilitate Data Sharing and Reuse: Promote the sharing and reuse of data by implementing features that align with FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
