The Task Area Semantics and Artificial Intelligence (TA-SAI, formerly Task Area Ontologies for Materials Science, TA-OMS) develops the semantic foundation for NFDI-MatWerk. Its goal is to represent materials, processes, simulations, and experiments in a machine-interpretable way across all subdomains of materials science and engineering (MSE). By addressing the complexity of materials data and bridging multiple length and time scales, TA-SAI enables data integration, reuse, and automation across scientific workflows. In its second phase, the focus shifts to consolidating and deploying semantic artifacts that support FAIR and interoperable research data practices throughout the MSE community.
