Overview

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a scientific and technical Federal Institute. It performs tests as part of its research projects and on behalf of industrial partners, it advises regulatory authorities, participates in standardization committees, and contributes to the development of test standards. It is part of BAM's mission to provide reference data in addition to reference materials and processes. The Materials Engineering Department has extensive expertise in the characterization of the microstructure and the mechanical behavior of materials. Metallic structural materials are highly relevant for almost all industry sectors. Structured collection and analysis of data is crucial for understanding structure-property relationships, developing new alloys, and predicting material behavior.  PP18 will contribute to the development of concepts for structured data schemas for standard test procedures and provide experimental data that will directly benefit the community.

The electrochemistry MAP at BAM enables automated electrodeposition, electrochemical testing, and characterization of materials. With closed-loop optimization guided by machine learning, this platform is ideally suited to explore large parameter spaces relevant to aqueous corrosion and electrochemical interface stability. Its ability to generate reproducible data makes it a key environment for validating workflows and proxy experiments. In PP18, the electrochemical MAP will assist the alloy development (bulk and thin film) with test and optimization campaigns.
