Overview

The participating project FAIR-GB is an open community effort for the development of consistent and extendable representations of the structure and properties of grain boundaries (GBs). This includes macroscopic degrees of freedom, microscopic structural units, and properties of special as well as general GBs in simple and complex crystal structures. The currently involved research groups in Aachen, Bochum, Düsseldorf and Münster share long-term interest in GB research and cover high-resolution characterization experiments, atomistic simulations and artificial intelligence (AI). They will contribute experimental and simulation data, AI methodology as well as engagement through ongoing research projects, e.g., the DFG project 535248809, “Atomistic simulations of H trapping at grain boundaries in ferritic alloys”.
