Overview

In this Participant Project (PP27), we want to compile information materials for publishing open access (OA) in materials science, such as checklists and examples, on the NFDI-MatWerk website and on the FID Materials Science website.

Publications are an important part of being a researcher. One reason to publish in OA is to empower open science but another reason is also for more visibility for one's research, that OA publications are more likely to be cited (Swan, 2010; Li et al., 2018). However, there are many things to consider before publishing in an OA format, e.g., there are different types of OA, journals, licensing models and publication fees. Another often overlooked option is to republish an existing paper (=secondary publication) in an OA journal or repository.
